Byron C. Kohut

Dean, School of Technology, Westmoreland County Community College

Byron C. Kohut, Ed.D., is currently the dean of the School of Technology at Westmoreland County Community College, Pennsylvania (PA). In this role, Dr. Kohut supervises faculty and staff that creates and instructs technology curriculum in nearly 50 degree, diploma, and certificate programs for the College. As part of a College initiative to create and sustain advanced manufacturing in Southwest PA, he was part of the design and implementation of the Westmoreland Advanced Technology Center (ATC). The ATC is a 75,000 square foot training facility that is home to a variety of programs in the technology fields. In addition to academic credit programs, the ATC offers customized and corporate training for local and regional companies. The ATC serves as an incubator for start-up companies in technology, specifically additive manufacturing and machining technology. Dr. Kohut has written and managed nearly $25 million in grants that benefit the College through collaborations with the United States Department of Labor, the United States Department of Naval Research, the Pennsylvania government, local and regional foundations, and other governmental agencies. Previously, Dr. Kohut was the director of energy programs at Westmoreland. Dr. Kohut has presented his work with the College across the world. Prior to his employment at Westmoreland, Dr. Kohut worked at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) designing successful grant applications focused in energy located at the CCAC West Hills Center. Dr. Kohut is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctorate in Education with a focus on community college management.
